"It's full of ideas for different ways to approach print design and methods to make the most of my hand-painted artwork.I love all of TPS classes I've taken but I think this one is my favourite!"
Paint New Motifs for Every Design and Find it's Barely Worth Your Time?
You're not alone.
Many designers start out thinking their elements are strictly single use. ONE set of motifs = ONE fabric design. And when you tally up the time spent researching and painting a family of motifs, import them, clean them and create a finished design with them, your hourly rate is below minimum wage.
But what if you could use the same set of hand-painted elements across multiple designs? Your productivity and your hourly rate would go up, wouldn't it?
This is the secret to your success as a professional textile designer.
You are right in thinking that duplicate motifs must not be sold in separate designs to different clients.
In the textile industry, not only is this frowned upon, it will lose you customers.
BUT, there are ways to 're-use' your motifs in a way that is accepted. And you will learn these in this course.
TAKE 3 HAND-PAINTED LEAF MOTIFS
We show you how to paint these tropical leaf motifs in the mini-course, Studio Sessions: Tropical Leaves in Gouache. If you haven't completed this course, no worries! Either do it first, or find three existing painted elements. The techniques apply to just about all painted motif styles with defined borders (soft, washy edges won't work as well).
AND TURN THEM INTO 10 DESIGNS
Yes! You will learn to create each of these designs from the same three motifs. Six in-house Longina Phillips Designs designers reveal their most successful design practices, across a wide range of styles.
Before you start, you need:
- 3 hand-painted motifs scanned, cleaned and separated onto different layers in Photoshop.
- Photoshop CS5 or above
- Access to the internet to stream your videos
- Access to a printer (if you would like to print your PDFs)
10 Videos (Total Run Time: 4 Hrs)
With each of the 10 design styles you'll gain more awareness of the potential of your three original motifs.

The Print School was founded five years ago by Longina Phillips Designs Studios out of a need for industry-specific textile tutorials. Both our customers and Instagram followers (you guys rock) expressed an interest in learning creative skills from our leading designers. And here we are!
Katrina is a senior textile designer here at LPD. She has worked at the studio for more than 11 years. She studied a BFA at COFA majoring in drawing and painting before turning her hand to textile design.
6 Studio Designers
While Katrina talks through the chapters, six of our senior in-house designers come together to create them for you! Each staff member demonstrates her personal approach to creating a print design.
